Purpose: Health
Aim/Objective/Mission: The Dean Foundation was registered
in March 1998 under Trust Act Doc No. 271. The trustees
have joined hands for the sole purpose of caring for the
ill and their families, irrespective of religion, caste
or creed. Foundation’s objective is Dignity and
Empower the Ailing and the Needy. Palliative Care is the
active total care of patients and their families by a
multi-professional team at a time when the disease is
no longer responsive to curative treatment and life expectancy
is relatively short. It encompasses physical, psychological,
social and care for patients in the last phases of their
life so that they can live as fully and comfortably as
possible. Palliative care seeks to ensure that compassion
and not science is the controlling force in patient care
– hence it is often referred to as low tech and
high touch. However, palliative care is not intrinsically
against medical tech., which is used synergistically.
Palliative medicine has been promoted by the WHO as a
comprehensive, multidisciplinary manner of care offered
by a team of doctors, nurses and social workers. |
