Purpose: Education, Health, Training, Women's issues
Aim/Objective/Mission: The status of women is the most
significant criterion of progress of any society or culture.
Our upnishads expounded the idea of men and women as equal
partners in life, each complementing the other, and incomplete
without the other. But in later ages, women’s position
in India gradually deteriorated. However, with the advent
of the Britishers in India and with the spread of western
education, there was a beginning of social reforms in
the country. All our modern national leaders from Raja
Ram Mohan Roy to Gandhiji were upholders of women’s
education and women’s freedom for self-development.
Women/Girls who wanted to study were not allowed to do
so because most of the educational institutions were co-educational.
Realising this, a group of enlightened leaders formed
an organisation in 1917 for this purpose. This organisation
was named Gujarat Stree Kelavani Mandal. Those who want
to work for the cause of women’s education, their
emancipation and their equality are all welcome, irrespective
of their caste, creed, religion or sex. The executive
body of the Mandal consists of only women in Gujarat.
Selfless service, sacrifice, hard work and honesty have
provided sufficient opportunities to many needy women.
The Mandal is of women, for women and run by women. |
