Purpose: Development(General), Sustainable Development
Aim/Objective/Mission: IDS is a UK national centre for
research and teaching on development. It was established
in 1966 and is an international authority in the field.
Research and teaching are combined with operational work,
advising governments and aid agencies, and helping to
turn theory on development into practice. IDS serves as
a forum for debate, hosting conferences and workshops
and producing a range of publications. It has an active
programme of international collaboration, and welcomes
visiting researchers and development specialists from
all over the world. The British Library for Development
Studies is housed at IDS. One of the world's foremost
development libraries, it serves as both a national and
international documentation centre.
