Aim/Objective/Mission: KIB is a non-governmental voluntary agency registered during the year 1994 under charitable society act of 1860 and ministry of Home Affairs with permanent FCRA 052900329. The project is located at Kannara Village, Ollokkara Block in Thrissur district of Kerala. KIB was started by a dynamic visually impaired team who all were educated and committed. The idea of forming an association for themselves mooted during their college days, when they realised the degree of rights denied to them just because of their visual loss. All this incidents motivated them to work for other differently abled persons in the community. Initially KIB raised local fund of about 45 lacs by way of door-to-door donations and by stamp sales among school students across the state with that fund they bought 2.5 acre of land in which they had built their own building and the balance amount was utilised as capital to start vocational training units. Every year KIB would have 50 persons with disabilities as trainees under various trades including their board members of which 35 would become residents in KIB and other 15 would be day scholars. One batch of trainees would be there for two years and then they would go back to their community. So far KIB has provided vocational training to more than 300 disabled persons under various trades like umbrella, agarbatti, candles and washing soap etc.
