an aim to give the differently able children a better
tomorrow, our Institute is bestowed with acclamation not
only from all the corners of India, but also from overseas.
Manovikas Kendra operates from its main centre at Kolkata,
which was gracefully inaugurated by His Excellency the
President of India, Shri K.R. Narayanan, in 1999. The
institute also have rural and outreach branches, which
are mainly based in the districts of West Bengal, providing

the children coming from below poverty level. Every disabled

In order to make this possible, Manovikas Kendra devised

a productive member of the society. With all the modern
equipment, team of specialists and dedicated faculty,
the Institute caters to children and young adults between

Department with the facility of therapeutic, psychometric
and home-based interventions for the special children
and their parents. The facility of toy library and hydrotherapy

a medium of modern therapeutic treatment. Manovikas Kendra
has recently started its Multi-Sensory Unit, exclusively
for the severely and profoundly challenged children, which
is one of the kinds in India. Here the children will be
imparted various sensory stimulation with the help of
highly specialised, imported equipment. In order to incorporate
the children back into the main stream of the society
the Institute provides the facility of National Open School

while others, who are not so good in academics, receive
vocational training. A number of students of the Institute
are appearing for the national Open School Examination
every year, and passing out with flying colours. A handful
of them has also got distinction marks in various subjects
and are now pursuing a career. The Institute also houses
a Biomedical Research & Diagnostic Unit, where a team
of dedicated scientists is working on the genetic aspect
of Mental Retardation. |
